RESUMO

RNA N4-acetylcytidine (ac4C) is the acetylation of cytidine at the nitrogen-4 position, which is a highly conserved RNA modification and involves a variety of biological processes. Hence, accurate identification of genome-wide ac4C sites is vital for understanding regulation mechanism of gene expression. In this work, a novel predictor, named iRNA-ac4C, was established to identify ac4C sites in human mRNA based on three feature extraction methods, including nucleotide composition, nucleotide chemical property, and accumulated nucleotide frequency. Subsequently, minimum-Redundancy-Maximum-Relevance combined with incremental feature selection strategies was utilized to select the optimal feature subset. According to the optimal feature subset, the best ac4C classification model was trained by gradient boosting decision tree with 10-fold cross-validation. The results of independent testing set indicated that our proposed method could produce encouraging generalization capabilities. For the convenience of other researchers, we established a user-friendly web server which is freely available at http://lin-group.cn/server/iRNA-ac4C/. We hope that the tool could provide guide for wet-experimental scholars.

RESUMO

Thermophilic proteins have important application value in biotechnology and industrial processes. The correct identification of thermophilic proteins provides important information for the application of these proteins in engineering. The identification method of thermophilic proteins based on biochemistry is laborious, time-consuming, and high cost. Therefore, there is an urgent need for a fast and accurate method to identify thermophilic proteins. Considering this urgency, we constructed a reliable benchmark dataset containing 1,368 thermophilic and 1,443 non-thermophilic proteins. A multi-layer perceptron (MLP) model based on a multi-feature fusion strategy was proposed to discriminate thermophilic proteins from non-thermophilic proteins. On independent data set, the proposed model could achieve an accuracy of 96.26%, which demonstrates that the model has a good application prospect. In order to use the model conveniently, a user-friendly software package called iThermo was established and can be freely accessed at http://lin-group.cn/server/iThermo/index.html. The high accuracy of the model and the practicability of the developed software package indicate that this study can accelerate the discovery and engineering application of thermally stable proteins.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Lipocalin belongs to the calcyin family, and its sequence length is generally between 165 and 200 residues. They are mainly stable and multifunctional extracellular proteins. Lipocalin plays an important role in several stress responses and allergic inflammations. Because the accurate identification of lipocalins could provide significant evidences for the study of their function, it is necessary to develop a machine learning-based model to recognize lipocalin. METHODS: In this study, we constructed a prediction model to identify lipocalin. Their sequences were encoded by six types of features, namely amino acid composition (AAC), composition of k-spaced amino acid pairs (CKSAAP), pseudo amino acid composition (PseAAC), Geary correlation (GD), normalized Moreau-Broto autocorrelation (NMBroto) and composition/transition/distribution (CTD). Subsequently, these features were optimized by using feature selection techniques. A classifier based on random forest was trained according to the optimal features. RESULTS: The results of 10-fold cross-validation showed that our computational model would classify lipocalins with accuracy of 95.03% and area under the curve of 0.987. On the independent dataset, our computational model could produce the accuracy of 89.90% which was 4.17% higher than the existing model. CONCLUSIONS: In this work, we developed an advanced computational model to discriminate lipocalin proteins from non-lipocalin proteins. In the proposed model, protein sequences were encoded by six descriptors. Then, feature selection was performed to pick out the best features which could produce the maximum accuracy. On the basis of the best feature subset, the RF-based classifier can obtained the best prediction results.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: This study investigated the safety and efficacy of coronary angiography (CAG) and percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) via distal transradial artery access (d-TRA). METHODS: For this single-centre prospective cohort study, a total of 1066 patients who underwent CAG or PCI procedures from September 2019 to November 2020 were included. Patients were divided into two groups: the d-TRA group (346) and the conventional transradial artery access (c-TRA) group (720) based on access site. A total of 342 pairs of patients were successfully matched using propensity score matching (PSM) for subsequent analysis. RESULTS: No significant differences in puncture success rate, procedural method, procedural time, sheath size, contrast dosage or fluoroscopy time were noted between the two groups. The puncture time in the d-TRA group was longer than that in the c-TRA group (P < 0.01), and the procedure success rate was lower than that in the c-TRA group (90.94% vs. 96.49%, P = 0.01). The haemostasis time in the d-TRA group was shorter than that in the c-TRA group (P < 0.01), and the visual analogue scale (VAS) was lower than that in the c-TRA group (P < 0.01). In addition, the prevalence of bleeding and haematoma in the d-TRA group was lower than that in the c-TRA group (1.75% vs. 7.31%, P < 0.01; 0.58% vs. 3.22%, P = 0.01, respectively). No significant difference in the incidence of numbness was noted between the two groups. No other complications were found in two groups. CONCLUSION: d-TRA is as safe and effective as c-TRA for CAG and PCI. It has the advantages of improved comfort and fewer complications. RESUMO

Cyclin proteins are capable to regulate the cell cycle by forming a complex with cyclin-dependent kinases to activate cell cycle. Correct recognition of cyclin proteins could provide key clues for studying their functions. However, their sequences share low similarity, which results in poor prediction for sequence similarity-based methods. Thus, it is urgent to construct a machine learning model to identify cyclin proteins. This study aimed to develop a computational model to discriminate cyclin proteins from non-cyclin proteins. In our model, protein sequences were encoded by seven kinds of features that are amino acid composition, composition of k-spaced amino acid pairs, tri peptide composition, pseudo amino acid composition, geary correlation, normalized moreau-broto autocorrelation and composition/transition/distribution. Afterward, these features were optimized by using analysis of variance (ANOVA) and minimum redundancy maximum relevance (mRMR) with incremental feature selection (IFS) technique. A gradient boost decision tree (GBDT) classifier was trained on the optimal features. Five-fold cross-validated results showed that our model would identify cyclins with an accuracy of 93.06% and AUC value of 0.971, which are higher than the two recent studies on the same data.

RESUMO

Myasthenia gravis (MG) is an autoimmune disease in which antibodies bind to acetylcholine receptors (AChR) or other functional molecules in the postsynaptic membrane at the neuromuscular junction. Vitamin D (VD) has a number of pluripotent effects, which include immune-regulation and bone metabolism. The immunomodulatory actions of 1,25(OH)2D3 are mediated by its binding to a vitamin D receptor (VDR). In the study, we undertook a case-control study to explore the association between VDR gene polymorphism and the susceptibility and severity of MG patients. Four hundred and eighty MG patients and 487 healthy controls were included and gene polymorphisms of VDR were determined with improved multiplex ligation detection reaction technique and SNPscanTM technique. MG patients were classified into subgroups by essential clinical features and by a comprehensive classification. The frequencies of alleles and genotypes were compared between the MG group and the control group, between each MG subgroup and the control group, and between each pair of MG subgroups. There were no significant differences in frequencies of alleles and genotypes between MG patients and healthy controls, between MG subgroups and healthy controls, or between each pair of MG subgroups in the analysis of subgroups classified by essential clinical features (onset age, gender, thymoma, AChRAb positivity, onset involvement) and the maximal severity (modified Oosterhuis score). In the analysis of subgroups with a comprehensive classification, the frequencies of alleles and genotypes in rs731236 showed significant differences between adult non-thymoma AChRAb negative MG subgroup and the control group, as well as the adult non-thymoma AChRAb positive MG group. In the Chinese Han population, rs731236 was found to be possibly associated with adult non-thymoma AChRAb negative MG patients, although this needs further confirmation.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Radial artery occlusion is a common complication after coronary angiography and percutaneous coronary intervention via the transradial access. In recent years, coronary angiography and percutaneous coronary intervention via the distal transradial access has gradually emerged, but recanalization of the occluded radial artery through the distal transradial access has rarely been reported. CASE PRESENTATION: A 67-year-old female with arterial hypertension and diabetes mellitus was admitted to the hospital due to chest pain for three hours. She was diagnosed with acute myocardial infarction. After admission, the patient successfully underwent emergency coronary angiography and percutaneous coronary intervention through the right transradial access. Radial artery occlusion was found after the operation, and recanalization was successfully performed through the right distal transradial access before discharge. Immediately after the operation and one month later, vascular ultrasonography showed that the antegrade flow was normal. CONCLUSIONS: This report presents a case of radial artery occlusion after emergency coronary angiography and percutaneous coronary intervention in which recanalization was successfully performed through the right distal transradial access. This case demonstrates that recanalization of a radial artery occlusion via the distal transradial access is safe and feasible.

RESUMO

Microbial fuel cell (MFC), a promising bio-electrochemical reactor could decompose organics in wastewater by redox processes of electro-active microorganism in anode and produce bio-energy, and the total MFC performance could mainly rely on electrochemical performance anode. Here, biomass carbon derived from municipal sludge was employed as low-cost and high-performance bio-anode for enhancing bioelectricity generation and wastewater treatment in MFC simultaneously. The electrochemical tests demonstrated that the large electrochemical active surface area, strong conductivity, and good biocompatibility in sludge carbon (SC) electrode resulted in higher power density (615.2 mW m-2) and lower power loss (5.4%) than those of none carbon (NC) electrode in long term operation. After 30-cycle of continuous running, the low loss of chemical oxygen demand (COD) removal was achieved up to 5.2%, which was smaller than that of NC electrode (14.1%), indicating that the MFC with SC anode could effectively treat wastewater and keep stable redox processes in anode electrode. After the formation of biofilm, the charge transfer resistance of SC electrode (16.38 Ω) was 72.4% lower than that of NC electrode (59.35 Ω). High-throughput analysis of biofilm exhibit Proteobacteria was the dominant electro-active bacteria, and the modification of SC could slightly change the bacterial community. Therefore, resource utilization of natural wastes provided the novel concept of anode catalyst fabrication for MFC in enhancing electron transfer, power output and wastewater decomposition.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The association of dietary patterns with constipation is not well established, particularly in Chinese population. Therefore, the present study aimed to determine the relationship between dietary patterns and the risk of constipation in a middle-aged Chinese population. METHODS: A total of 2267 participants aged 45-59 years were recruited in Hangzhou city, the capital of Zhejiang Province, east China from August 2016 to October 2018. Dietary intake was estimated using a semi-quantitative food frequency questionnaire (FFQ) containing 138 food items. Constipation was defined using the Rome II criteria. Multivariate logistic regression was used to examine the association between dietary patterns and the risk of constipation. RESULTS: Three major dietary patterns were extracted by factor analysis and labeled as the traditional southern Chinese, Western and grains-vegetables patterns. The prevalence of constipation in our study population was 13.28%. Compared with the participants in the lowest quartile, the participants in the highest quartile of the traditional southern Chinese pattern were associated with reduced odds of constipation (odd ratios (OR) = 0.79; 95%confidence interval (CI): 0.626-0.981; P < 0.05), after adjusting for confounding variables. In contrast, we found no significant associations between the Western and grains-vegetables patterns and the risk of constipation (P > 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Our study demonstrated that the traditional southern Chinese pattern was associated with a reduced risk of constipation. Further longitudinal studies are needed to confirm our findings.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a common endocrine disorder in reproductive-age women. Multiple susceptible gene as well as environmental factors and their interaction each other are contributed to the PCOS risk. Several case-control studies have researched the associations of the vitamin D receptor gene (VDR) polymorphisms with PCOS susceptibility, but the jury is still out. Here, we carried out a meta-analysis to clarify polymorphisms between ApaI (C/A) (rs7975232), BsmI (G/A) (rs1544410), FokI (C/T) (rs10735810), TaqI (T/C) (rs731236) and Tru9I (G/A) (rs757343) in the VDR gene and PCOS susceptibility based on relative lager sample size. METHODS: English database of PubMed and Embase, and Chinese database of Wanfang and China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) databases were retrivaled for the relationship between VDR gene variates and PCOS susceptibility published before 31th, May 2018. Crude odds ratios (ORs) and its 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs) in different comparisons were used to detected the strength of the association. All the statistical analyses of the present meta-analysis were performed by STATA version 12.0 software. RESULTS: Totally, 3587 (PCOS group 1922; control group 1665) participants from 13 studies were included which met our inclusion criteria. A statistically significant association between VDR ApaI (rs7975232) polymorphism and PCOS susceptibility (C vs. A: OR = 1.19, 95%CI = 1.06~1.34, P = 0.004) was found in the overall population. After stratified by ethnicity, we showed that there is a significant association between VDR ApaI (rs7975232) polymorphism and susceptibility to PCOS in the Asian (C vs. A: OR = 1.21, 95%CI = 1.04~1.42, P = 0.016) population, but this association was not found in the Caucasian population. Additionally, a significant relationship between VDR BsmI (rs1544410) variates with PCOS susceptibility in the Asian (G vs. A: OR = 1.27, 95%CI = 1.06~1.53, P = 0.011) population, but this association was not found in the Caucasian population. We didn't find any association between VDR FokI (rs2228570), VDR TaqI (rs731236), VDR Tru9I (rs757343) and PCOS susceptibility in the overall and the subgroup populations. CONCLUSIONS: Our findings demonstrated that VDR ApaI (rs7975232) and VDR BsmI (rs1544410) polymorphisms are correlated with susceptibility to PCOS in the Asian population and VDR TaqI (rs731236), VDR FokI (rs2228570), VDR Tru9I (rs757343) did not reveal a relationship with the PCOS susceptibility.

RESUMO

Limited evidence is available regarding the association between serum uric acid (SUA) and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), especially in gender difference. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate gender difference on the association between SUA, hyperuricemia, and NAFLD in the Chinese population. A cross-sectional study was carried out in a group of 1006 Chinese adults aged between 45 and 59 years old, in the city of Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province who were attending their annual health examination in the period between July 2015 and March 2017. Face-to-face interviews were conducted using a written questionnaire. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed to examine the associations between SUA, hyperuricemia, and NAFLD with adjustment of potential confounding variables. Wald tests were used to for heterogeneity between males and females. Body mass index (BMI), waist circumference (WC), waist-hip ratio (WHR), fasting plasma glucose (FPG), systolic blood pressure (SBP), diastolic blood pressure (DBP), triglycerides (TG), SUA, alanine aminotransferase (ALT), asparagine aminotransferase (AST), and the prevalence of hypertension, hyperuricemia, and NAFLD were significantly higher in male than in female (P < .05). Females had the significantly higher levels of total cholesterol and high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (HDL-C). Simple correlation analysis showed that SUA was positively associated with BMI, WC, WHR, TG, ALT, AST and inversely associated with age and HDL-C. After adjusting for confounders, hyperuricemia was associated with an increased risk of NAFLD in both genders, with odds ratio (95%confidence interval) of 2.645 (1.213-5.768), 1.962 (1.051-3.661), respectively. There was a significant association in NAFLD found in males, compared with females (Wald = 118.589, df = 1, P < .0001).Our findings indicated that the association of SUA with NAFLD was much more closely related in males than in females. Males with hyperuricemia had the higher risk of NAFLD. Further longitudinal studies are needed to confirm these findings.

RESUMO

The analysis of dietary patterns has recently drawn considerable attention as a method of investigating the association between the overall whole diet and the risk of colorectal cancer. However, the results have yielded conflicting findings. Here, we carried out a meta-analysis to identify the association between dietary patterns and the risk of colorectal cancer. A total of 40 studies fulfilled the inclusion criteria and were included in this meta-analysis. The highest category of 'healthy' dietary pattern compared with the lowest category was apparently associated with a decreased risk for colorectal cancer [odds ratio (OR)=0.75; confidence interval (CI): 0.68-0.83; P<0.00001]. An increased risk of colorectal cancer was shown for the highest compared with the lowest category of a 'western-style' dietary pattern (OR=1.40; CI: 1.26-1.56; P<0.00001). There was an increased risk of colorectal cancer in the highest compared with the lowest category of 'alcohol-consumption' pattern (OR=1.44; CI: 1.13-1.82; P=0.003). The results of this meta-analysis indicate that a 'healthy' dietary pattern may decrease the risk of colorectal cancer, whereas 'western-style' and 'alcohol-consumption' patterns may increase the risk of colorectal cancer.

RESUMO

Previous studies have attempted to assess the relation between different dietary patterns and the risk of endometrial cancer (EC); however, a consistent perspective has not been established to date. Therefore, we carried out this meta-analysis to evaluate the associations between dietary patterns and the risk of EC. The most common dietary patterns with high loadings of foods and/or nutrients were selected. A total of 27 studies fulfilled the inclusion criteria and were included in the present meta-analysis. There was evidence of a decreased risk of EC in the highest compared with the lowest categories of healthy dietary pattern [odds ratio (OR)=0.74; confidence interval (CI): 0.62-0.88; P=0.008]. An increased risk of EC was shown for the highest compared with the lowest category of a western-style dietary pattern (OR=1.37; CI: 1.15-1.64; P=0.0005). No significant association with the risk of EC was found in the highest compared with the lowest category of alcohol-drinking pattern (OR=0.98; CI: 0.73-1.30; P=0.87). The results of this meta-analysis indicate that some dietary patterns may be associated with the risk of EC.

RESUMO

In our literature research, we have not found any study reporting the association between the major dietary patterns and the risk of hyperuricemia in a middle-aged Chinese population. Herein, the present study aimed to evaluate the association of dietary patterns with the risk of hyperuricemia in the city of Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, East China. We included 1204 participants (743 males and 461 females) aged 45 to 59 years in the present cross-sectional study. Dietary intake was assessed using a semiquantitative food frequency questionnaire in 2014 to 2016. All biochemical data and anthropometric measurements were collected following standardized procedures. Dietary patterns were determined by using factor analysis. We examined the associations between major dietary patterns and hyperuricemia risk by log-binominal regression analysis, and the results are presented as prevalence ratio (PR) and confidence interval (CI). Three major dietary patterns were identified by means of factor analysis: traditional Chinese, meat food, and mixed food patterns. After controlling for potential confounders, subjects in the highest quartile of the traditional Chinese pattern scores had a lower PR for hyperuricemia (PR = 0.82; 95%CI: 0.426-0.922), in comparison to those from the lowest quartile, while compared with the lowest quartile of the meat food pattern, the highest quartile had a greater PR for hyperuricemia (PR = 1.48; 95%CI: 1.120-2.097). Besides, no association was observed between mixed food pattern and the risk of hyperuricemia. Our findings indicate that the traditional Chinese pattern is associated with a decreased risk of hyperuricemia, and the meat food pattern is associated with an increased risk of hyperuricemia, whereas the mixed food pattern shows no association with the risk of hyperuricemia. Further large prospective studies are warranted to confirm our findings.

RESUMO

UNLABELLED: Epidemiological studies of different dietary patterns and the risk of hypertension among a middle-aged Chinese population remain extremely scare. Thus, the aim of this study was to identify dietary patterns and investigate the relationship between dietary patterns and the risk of hypertension among Chinese adults aged 45-60 years. The present cross-sectional study includes 2560 participants who reported their dietary intake using a validated food frequency questionnaire (FFQ). Dietary patterns were identified using factor analysis. Anthropometric measurements were obtained using standardized procedures. We used log-binomial regression analysis to examine the associations between dietary patterns and hypertension risk. Four major dietary patterns were identified and labeled as traditional Chinese, animal food, western fast-food, and high-salt patterns. After adjusting for potential confounders, participants in the highest quartile of animal food pattern scores had a greater prevalence ratio (PR) for hypertension (PR = 1.26; 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.064-1.727; p < 0.05) in comparison to those from the lowest quartile. Compared with the lowest quartile of high-salt pattern, the highest quartile had a higher prevalence ratio for hypertension (PR = 1.12; 95% CI: 1.013-1.635; p < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Our findings indicated that animal food and high-salt patterns were associated with increased risk of hypertension, while traditional Chinese and western fast-food patterns were not associated with the risk of hypertension. Further prospective studies are warranted to confirm these findings.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Before performing spine non-fusion surgery that retains the facet joints, choosing an accurate radiographic method to evaluate the degree of facet joint degeneration is extremely important. Therefore, the objective of this study was to determine the accuracy and reliability of different radiographic classifications by analyzing the correlation between radiographic and pathologic grading of lumbar facet joint degeneration. Taking the pathologic examination as standard, the consistency of computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) assessment of lumbar facet joint degeneration was compared. METHODS: A total of 74 facet joints obtained from 42 patients who underwent posterior lumbar surgery were evaluated. All patients underwent CT and MRI before surgery. The pathologic grade was evaluated with a method based on hematoxylin-eosin and toluidine blue staining. The radiographic grade was evaluated using the methods proposed by different authors. RESULTS: There was a moderate consistency between pathologic and radiographic grading for facet joint degeneration. The weighted kappa coefficients comparing pathologic with radiographic grading were 0.506 for CT, 0.561 for MRI, and 0.592 for CT combined with MRI, respectively. Taking the pathologic examination as standard, the consistency of CT and MRI examination was also moderate, and the weighted kappa coefficient was 0.459. CONCLUSION: The radiographic examination has moderate accuracy and reliability for evaluating degeneration of facet joints. Therefore, a more accurate method for evaluating the degeneration of facet joints is necessary before performing spine non-fusion surgery that retains the facet joints.

RESUMO

Investigation of the relationship between dietary patterns and some chronic noncommunicable diseases has become appealing in nutritional epidemiology. Some studies have reported potential associations between dietary patterns and the risk of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease; however, the results remain conflicting. Thus, we conducted this meta-analysis to pool the results of studies to clarify the associations between dietary patterns and the risk of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. A literature search of MEDLINE and EBSCO databases was performed to identify relevant studies published from January 1990 up to June 2015. A total of 13 studies met the inclusion criteria and were included in this meta-analysis. The highest category of healthy/prudent dietary patterns when compared with the lowest category was apparently associated with a decreased risk (OR = 0.55; CI: 0.46, 0.66; P < 0.0001). An increase in the risk of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease was shown for the highest compared with the lowest categories of "unhealthy/western-style" dietary patterns (OR = 2.12; CI: 1.64, 2.74; P < (0.0001). The results of this meta-analysis indicate that different dietary pattern may be associated with the risk of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

RESUMO

UNLABELLED: No previous study has investigated dietary pattern in association with obesity risk in a middle-aged Chinese population. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the associations between dietary patterns and the risk of obesity in the city of Hangzhou, the capital of Zhejiang Province, east China. In this cross-sectional study of 2560 subjects aged 45-60 years, dietary intakes were evaluated using a semi-quantitative food frequency questionnaire (FFQ). All anthropometric measurements were obtained using standardized procedures. The partial correlation analysis was performed to assess the associations between dietary patterns and body mass index (BMI), waist circumference (WC), and waist to hip ratio (WHR). Multivariate logistic regression analysis was used to examine the associations between dietary patterns and obesity, with adjustment for potential confounders. Four major dietary patterns were extracted by means of factor analysis: animal food, traditional Chinese, western fast-food, and high-salt patterns. The animal food pattern was positively associated with BMI (r = 0.082, 0.144, respectively, p < 0.05) and WC (r = 0.102, 0.132, respectively, p < 0.01), and the traditional Chinese pattern was inversely associated with BMI (r = -0.047, -0.116, respectively, p < 0.05) and WC (r = -0.067, -0.113, respectively, p < 0.05) in both genders. After controlling for potential confounders, subjects in the highest quartile of animal food pattern scores had a greater odds ratio for abdominal obesity (odds ratio (OR) = 1.67; 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.188-2.340; p < 0.01), in comparison to those from the lowest quartile. Compared with the lowest quartile of the traditional Chinese pattern, the highest quartile had a lower odds ratio for abdominal obesity (OR = 0.63; 95% CI: 0.441-0.901, p < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Our findings indicated that the animal food pattern was associated with a higher risk of abdominal obesity, while the traditional Chinese pattern was associated with a lower risk of abdominal obesity. Further prospective studies are warranted to confirm these findings.

RESUMO

Previous studies reported the potential associations between dietary patterns and the risk of coronary heart disease (CHD) in adulthood, however a consistent perspective has not been established to date. Herein, we carried out this meta-analysis to evaluate the associations between dietary patterns and the risk of CHD. MEDLINE and EBSCO were searched for relevant articles published up to April 2015. A total of 35 articles (reporting 37 original studies) met the inclusion criteria and were included in the present meta-analysis. The decreased risk of CHD was shown for the highest compared with the lowest categories of healthy/prudent dietary patterns (odds ratio (OR) = 0.67; 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.60, 0.75; p < 0.00001) and alcohol consumption (OR = 0.68; 95% CI: 0.59, 0.78; p < 0.00001). There was evidence of an increased risk of CHD in the highest compared with the lowest categories of the unhealthy/Western-type dietary patterns (OR = 1.45; 95% CI: 1.05, 2.01; p = 0.02). The results of this meta-analysis indicate that different dietary patterns may be associated with the risk of CHD.

RESUMO

In considering the impact of inoculation time and the characteristics of composting material and inoculants on the usefulness of inoculation, a new composting strategy has been proposed and studied, in which three inocula were inoculated at three stages of composting process respectively: inoculum A (Thermoactinomyces sp. GF1 and GF2) was inoculated before fermentation to increase or maintain high temperature of pile, inoculum B (Coprinus cinerea and Coprinus comatus) was inoculated after thermophilic phase to promote degradation of lignin, and inoculum C (Trichoderma harzianum and Rhizopus oryzae) was inoculated after 30-day fermentation to promote degradation of cellulose. The results showed that the inoculations could significantly enhance the temperature of pile and the degradation of lignocelluloses. When inocula A, B, and C were inoculated into pile, temperature increased from 25°C to 65°C, from 33°C to 39°C and from 33°C to 38°C respectively and 35% lignin and 43% cellulose had been degraded in inoculated pile compared to the degradation of 15% lignin and 25% cellulose in control pile. As a result, the C/N ratio dropped more rapidly degraded in the inoculated pile (reached 20 after 33-day fermentation) than that in the control pile (reached 21.7 after 45-day fermentation). In addition, the volume loss in inoculated pile (76.5%) was higher than that in control pile (53.2%). The study, therefore, indicated that inoculating proper microorganisms at appropriate time improved the composting process and our new composting strategy would be propitious to the co-composting dairy manure with rice straw.
